ITALIAN FOR FOREIGNERS

Immigration in Sicily has reached such a proportion as to be considered a structural issue. Being able to communicate in the language of the welcoming country allows immigtants of all ages to bridge gaps with institutions and locals, breaking down barriers. Learning the local language is an important step towards becoming members of a community, and it is among the most important aspects of a social, cultural and economic integration process. In addition to being crucial for the educational journey of their children, being able to understand and express themselves in the local language allows immigrants more autonomy in providing for themselves and their family; better employment opportunities; and the ability to exercise their civil rights to their full extent when dealing with other individuals, institutions, the law and all levels of government.

This is why LabCasa Gialla sul Molo has devised an Italian as a Second Language program for the benefit of older foreign-born community members. We offer both foundations and advanced courses, and help those who need to apply for a CE long residency permit. These individuals, if unable to obtain an excemption to mandatory language testing, would otherwise need to travel to a provincial center for adult education (CPAs) which can be costly and not compatible with their work schedule.
